In reading class, we are continuing to work on meaning and are now examining how books are organized into genres. The students brainstormed booklists similar to a book that they were reading, in essence creating their own genres. I've also been plugging away at the DIBELs benchmark testing. It takes a lot longer than I remember, but I'm about halfway done with each grade, so I'm hoping to wrap that up this coming week.
We continued working on consonant blends in spelling this week The students practiced with their flash cards and on Spelling City. They are really doing a great job remembering all of my weird little routines!
The kids have also been doing a great job on First in Math! This is the first time that I can remember having a different player of the day for each day! I love seeing that the students are so enthusiastic !
The fourth graders were also examining adaptations, but they were focusing on plants. Adaptations such as spikes, poison, and flowers help plants to survive in a lot of ways. One of the favorite activities for the 4th graders was the scavenger hunt, where they had to locate a variety of special plants using the iPads!
